The Dance of Motherhood & Birth

The dance of motherhood is a process of becoming. It is all encompassing. A complete identity shift. A constant dance between being subsumed in selfless loving connection and grasping to hold onto the individuation of yourself.

From the moment your baby begins to develop in your womb you shape shift to become two. Two hearts, two minds, two spirits inhabiting the same holy house. From this moment in every instant you are no longer an I you become a we.

Along with the physical development of a baby, pregnancy is the beginning of the unfolding of matrescence ( the process of becoming a mother). This process of development is one of the most sacred. The way we all came into being. A mother gave of herself fully. She sweat, she cried, she planned and prayed and sang and screamed. She became overwhelmed and thought she couldn’t do it. She let herself surrender to be overtaken and trusted herself more than she ever thought she could. Then the love rushed forward and covered her and baby with devotion. Belly to belly, heart to heart, breath and breast.

Motherhood is a mirror showing you how much you can overcome. Teaching you, you have more patience and compassion and strength than you ever knew.

As soon as you learned how to become two you now have to learn how to let go. How to give them independence, freedom to get curious and learn from their mistakes, but be ready to be there when they need encouragement, a whole body hug when they fall, to talk them and yourself into knowing they can do it.

We are always becoming. We learn how to be like the waves or the tide, in and out at the right times. Possessing the qualities of strength and fluidity and the constant ability to always be a cradle to land on.

These bodies that have been pulled and stretched. That have borne witness to all this. These souls that have bloomed in devotion should be cherished. The soft belly’s, the chest that nourished and held. They hold the stories of a lifetime of love. The fact that these bodies are degraded in any way that there is shame held in these tender sacred crevices is something to grieve. These luminous and abundant bodies that have given so much should be held with reverence and exalted as we do the sun and the moon. The cycles of life are etched within them.

With this understanding I would love to help guide you through the portal of motherhood. On an Ayurvedic journey through this rite of passage.
