Reproductive Rights Are Human Rights- a fundraiser for reproductive justice Sunday 9/18!

Recently I have been thinking a lot about resilience. How it’s a superpower you don’t want to fully claim. Yes the ability to walk through the deepest shadows and alchemize that pain into strength should be praised but the constant need to begin this process again and again should not be applauded. I am tired of resilience. We continue to put that weight on the individual vs. the collective. We have to fix the systems that perpetuate this continual trauma. Disparities in how our broken healthcare system treats reproductive health have always disproportionately impacted BIPOC communities. Whether it be access to care, racial bias from providers, environmental racism, forced sterilization or the fact that in our country the Black maternal mortality rate is still 2.9 times higher than White women.

Many times BIPOC women are left behind in the fight for reproductive rights or disproportionately impacted when rights regress. The fight for reproductive justice goes beyond Roe v. Wade. Legal rights only have impact if there is access. Black activists in the 1990’s founded the reproductive justice movement to encompass a broader aim. More than just addressing rights to address dismantling the systems of oppression that block access to full spectrum care and inhibit full autonomy in decision making.

We are being propelled by the waves these changemakers have made to support the work that has been ongoing. Our goal is to support organizations that center women of color in the fight for reproductive freedom and body autonomy.

Let’s work to manifest a world where women’s power is inherently known and cherished. Where there is no need for constant resilience. Where vulnerability is seen as strength. Where we surrender the trauma and shame held in our bodies and spirits and are exalted to live in our birthright, the highest expression of our fullest selves.
